In a time when the flock is large and easily led it is refreshing to stumble across a musical pair that really make you stop and take note. They are already making a sizable impact in the industry with very little contribution in terms of production, however all this is about to change. Even by watching them DJ on video clips or speaking to mutual friends about them we get a real sense that these guys are on brink of greatness.
Mind Against are Alex and Fred, Italian born electronic music artists, producers and DJs.
Part of the the thriving Italian electronic music scene, the newcomer duo sets out to create a sound that draws from a wide range of influences but stilistically focused around the production of deep disco pop songs characterized by dark synths hooks, groovy 909 drums and fat basslines usually combined with dark melancholy vocals.
They recently collaborated with Tale of Us on the successful remix of PillowTalk’s ‘Soft’ released on Life and Death last October and they are currently working on the first full lenght debut ep for the aforementioned label.
Alex and Fred took time out to speak to THE STEM. ahead of there upcoming gig for Treehouse at Spektrum, Manchester (UK) on Saturday 4th February 2012.
THE STEM: Buongiorno, how are you?
MA: We are doing really good thanks, you?
MA Alex: Milan is a very intense city and better known for it’s fashion and style than for it’s music. I would say it is hard to be an electronic musician here, the scene is crowded and PR based and few parties are really worth playing.
MA both: First time!
MA Fede: Actually it’s one of our first gigs out of the country we’ve been locals for a while. Ready to explore new horizons.
MA both: Our sounds spaces from disco and house, to darker techno and atmospheric landscapes.
THE STEM: When were you last impressed?
MA Alex: I’m pretty impressed with the new grocery store that opened next to our flat, it’s awesome.
MA Fede: I loved Floating points new album.
THE STEM: Haha Yes Alex! What have you got coming up?
MA both: We will work tightly with the label life and death and hope in releasing soon our concept and tunes. It is still in the making so i would expect anything in the near future apart from some rmxs. This year will be a production year for us we’ve also co-produced the life and death rmx along tale of us for Soft.
THE STEM: Favorite track at the minute?
MA Alex: Redshape - On the floor ( actually i would add this to the list of things that have impressed me recently).
MA Fede: Daso - T. Anders
THE STEM: We hear you are good friends with Matteo from Tale of Us. Tell us more about this friendship….
MA Alex: I’ve known Matteo since we were much younger, we actually started making music together and had some tracks back in the days. We have also some projects together with the guys. But for now top secret.
THE STEM: And finally vinyl or MP3?
MA both: Traktor and vinyl!
